Welsh Australian author AJ Lyndon grew up in South Wales and now lives in Melbourne, Australia. She has a long- term interest in Early Modern history and in the English Civil War in particular. In 2016 she travelled to the UK to research the finer points of the English Civil War events appearing in her book.
“I have a husband, 2 children and a Brittany spaniel named Disney, after Edward Disney, former Royalist prisoner in Warwick Castle in the 1640s! My favourite authors are generally writers of historical fiction – Michael Arnold (Stryker Chronicles), Diana Gabaldon (Outlander), Hilary Mantel (Wolf Hall) and SJ Parris (Giordano Bruno series).
I love Early Music and during the researching of Welsh Linnet I immersed myself in the music of the Elizabethans William Byrd, Thomas Tallis and John Dowland. The Welsh Linnet is peppered with contemporary musical references and lyrics.
I am passionate about getting the historical detail right. Others may write tougher battle scenes. I enjoy concentrating on the motivations of the characters and attempting to get inside the heads of the women, those left behind in fear and those who accompanied their men to war, and the men who were prepared to sacrifice both livelihood and life either out of duty, or in pursuit of gaining an England whose political and religious landscape accorded with their own beliefs.”
The Welsh Linnet is her first novel, the first book in a planned “War Without An Enemy” trilogy. She is a member of the Historical Novel Society and the Battle of Worcester Society.
